Inside London Bridge, 2013

Lucinda Grange explores the limits of the built environment, accessing places and spaces that are for most unseen, hidden or simply out-of-bounds. She frequently delves below the city exploring and documenting lost rivers and infrastructures such as abandoned subway stations and labyrinth sewage systems.

Grange’s photograph Inside London Bridge was taken quite literally inside the hollow structure that hangs from the underside of London Bridge. Grange says ‘At one point in time, for those with the knowledge, it was possible to get into these tunnels. Once inside, it really was easy to forget that we were essentially hanging from the underside of one of the busiest bridges along the Thames. The tunnel felt submerged and completely secluded. The only reminder that this was indeed a bridge was when we came across the odd gantry cutting through the tunnels, leading us out under the bridge, then back into the next tunnel.’
