Message in a Bottle from Ramsgate to the Chatham Islands (Seascape), 2004
 
This photographic print, depicting a seascape with three floating messages in bottles, was created by Layla Curtis as part of her 2004 project Message in a Bottle from Ramsgate to the Chatham Islands. It is available exclusively from Edgework as a limited edition of 12. 
 
Message in a Bottle from Ramsgate to the Chatham Islands tracks a fleet of messages in bottles released by Curtis into the sea off the south-east coast of England near the Ramsgate, Kent. The intended destination of the bottles is the remote Chatham Islands in the South Pacific Ocean, the nearest inhabited land to the point on the globe furthest from Ramsgate. Some of the bottles were fitted with bespoke, solar-powered, GPS tracking devices programmed to transmit their locations back to Ramsgate every few minutes. A computer plotted this information onto a map to create a live drawing of the bottles’ journeys which can be seen on the project website.

Mounted

Our handmade conservation fine art framing service uses solid woods from sustainable sources. The framing process uses 100% acid free materials which are FSC certified.
