Buzludzha II, 2016
 
Caught between a fractious past, a complex present and an uncertain future, Buzludzha, Bulgaria's former communist party headquarters, stands atop a mountain, symbolic of an inescapable history that prompts diverse and contradictory emotions amongst those whose landscape it dominates. Entry to the structure varies over time, visitors sometimes denied by efforts from authorities to prevent access, in turn negotiated by innovative, often destructive means. 
 
When Andy Day visited in 2016, he and a companion made their way inside by squeezing through a hole in the ground that had been opened previously using a pick axe, allowing entry to one of the many tunnels that run underneath the immense structure. They then lowered themselves down a 4 metre wall, balancing on a filing cabinet stacked on planks of wood, and into a damp underground chamber, finding their way with the light from their mobile phones. 
 
Day has created limited edition prints, especially for Edgework, of three of his Buzludzha photographs.
